Nerve issues cause pain, numbness, sciatica, and peripheral neuropathy. If you go to a traditional doctor, they probably won’t know what to do for you other than give you pain medication. That just manages your discomfort. It does nothing to actually solve the problem and treat the source.
At Natural Foundations, we look for the “level of the longitudinal lesion,” which means that we discover where the problem actually exists in your nervous system. It’s easy to assume that the problem is where the pain exists, but that isn’t always the case. The best way to explain this is by thinking about a water hose. If you can’t get water from the hose, the actual cause could be anywhere along that pipe. The nervous system is similar. If there is a problem with the nerves, the communication between the brain and the rest of the body isn’t functioning optimally.
The cause could be a blockage within the hose or pressure that is being placed on a certain portion of the pipe. The same thing can happen to your nerves. If there is a problem with certain nerves, the whole system is affected. Over time, a problem in one spot can cause problems in others and set off a domino effect. This is called transneural degeneration.
How the Nervous System Works
The left hemisphere of the brain controls the right side of your body, and the right hemisphere controls the left side. The nerves of the nervous system carry information from the body to the brain. So, if someone touches your foot, a nerve signal travels to your brain so that you “know” someone touched your foot. When you make a decision to move your foot, the nerve signal travels from the brain to the foot, telling your foot to move.
If the nerve signals are not optimal, we end up with pain, loss of strength, balance issues, etc. Peripheral neuropathy is a nerve condition, for example, that causes these kinds of symptoms. If someone has pain in the legs and numbness in the toes, the domino effect could cause the pain to escalate and balance issues to start.
These nerve problems can cause people to lose feeling in their feet so that they can no longer drive. If balance problems start, it’s easy to fall and break a hip.
